Introduction

About this Recipe

It takes some time to transition over to a completely “Indian” diet. Meanwhile, once in awhile, I’d cook up this spaghetti sauce for Devin. He’s vata dosha, so this sauce is specificallydesigned for a vata person.

Micronutrients for Vata Dosha

  • Nutritional Brewer’s Yeast
  • Bone Broth
  • Olive Oil
  • Butter
  • Honey

These are the specific ingredients that I choose to incorporate into this sauce to counter a vata imbalance. It’s delicious but throws my kapha dosha out of wack! It’s really rich and heavy.

Serve over spaghetti or even rice!

Nutrition

If the bone broth does not resonate with you, just leave it out. It will not effect the taste, but does change the micronutrients a bit.

Serve over pasta with grated parmesan cheese. Nutritional facts below are for one cup of the sauce only.

Equipment

  • Sauce Pan

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Butter Or ghee
  • 2 tsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Oregano Dried
  • 1 tbsp Bone Broth
  • 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast
  • 1 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper Fresh ground
  • 1 pinch Hing (Optional)
  • 1 Tomato Finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup Tomato puree
  • cup Parmesan Cheese Fresh grated
  • 1 tbsp Raw honey Add after cooking
  • ½ cup Water If needed

Instructions

  • Heat butter or ghee and olive oil; add the oregano, bone broth, nutritional yeast, salt, pepper and chopped tomato, hing if using. Stirring constantly to mix about 3-4 minutes to soften the tomatoes.
  • Add the tomato puree and Parmesan cheese; cover and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes. You may need to add some water to keep the sauce from getting too thick.
  • Remove from the heat and whisk in the honey. This whisking also emulsifies the butter/oils to mix well into the sauce.

Notes

I know, bone broth powder is not very sattvic but Devin's extreme Vata imbalance could use all the extra help in grounding.
Use canned tomatoes if fresh are not available. Works just fine.
