Why I started this food blog.
My main purpose in starting this food blog was for me to have recipes of foods that are healthy and easy to prepare; can be made with a few basic ingredients on hand and even fewer fresh ingredients. Increasingly, more of these recipes are founded on Ayurvedic principals.
Gayle Lawrence – My Story
When my mother passed away at a relatively young age of 73, she was eating brownies a la mode for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In-between snacks consisted of cookies or ice cream milkshakes. We let her eat like that, ‘cause heck, she was old and deserved the right to choose what she wanted to eat, without anybody telling her it was bad for her and she should be eating something else better, fresher, greener.
I could see myself heading in that direction, in more ways than one. About five years ago, I made a conscious decision to change the path of my life. I began training in yoga, the whole philosophy of yoga, not just the exercises. Yoga lead me to Ayurvedics. Both are leading me daily to a place of peace, happiness, compassion, contentment, well being, health and vitality.
In a time when people my age are in stage two diabetes and on life long blood pressure medications, I am doing headstands and hour long meditations, no medications at all. Nothing. Zip. Nada.
I don’t smoke (anymore) and don’t drink (…well, not much…) and I’m slowly getting my mind under control (the last bastion of resistance to give up control of the “self” – with a little “s”)
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
– Carl Jung
Baby steps…
None of this was as a result of sheer will power, I did not set about to change bad habits or willfully alter thought patterns or destructive behavior. Rather I set out on a journey of a new life style which slowly changed me from the inside out without much active participation on my part other than to make the small, daily decisions – is this leading more towards my goal or away from my goal? Is this helping me to become the person I want to be, or am I going further away from that dream? Sometimes I would choose away from my goal, but other days I would be moving towards my goal and the effects of small, right choices on a daily basis compounded into – tah dah!! – a healthier, happier conscious human being! Almost effortlessly.

Becoming!
Ayurvedics believes that good health begins with good digestion, and good digestion begins with what we put in our bodies.
As I am a work in progress, so too is this blog and its collection of personal recipes.
