Honey Garlic Chicken

Chicken is rubbed with spices, seared for flavor then simmered in a honey garlic sauce.

Equipment

  • 1 Dutch oven

Ingredients

  • 4 Chicken thighs or whole leg pieces Large, with skin and bone in.
  • 1 tbsp Avocado/olive oil

Chicken Rub

  • 1 tsp Paprika Mild or smoked
  • ½ tsp Brown sugar
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Onion powder
  • ¼ tsp Cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Redmond salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper Fresh ground

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • ½ cup Honey
  • ½ cup Butter
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Fresh chopped
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Thicken agent for gravy

  • ¼ cup Chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken rub by mixing all the rub spice powders together along with ½ tablespoon of the oil. Mix well to create a paste and rub the chicken with the paste. Set aside while you prepare the ingredients for the sauce.
  • Prepare the ingredients for the sauce. Set aside.
  • Add the remaing ½ tbsp of oil to a heavy Dutch oven or skillet. Heat to very hot. Sear the rubbed chicken until brown on all sides. remove and set aside.
  • To the Dutch oven or skillet, melt the butter, then quickly saute the garlic for a few seconds, scraping up any bits of chicken,.
  • Add the remaining sauce ingredients and bring to a simmer.
  • Add the chicken; cover and simmer, stirring occasionally until the chicken is done - tender and falling off the bone. Depending on size, may take 45 minutes to an hour or so.
  • Remove chicken and stir in the chicken broth/cornstarch mixture to thicken. When desired consistency is reached, add the chicken back in and serve.
